The Union Forever: Ideas of America

Clara Rottsolk sings a collection of Broadside Ballads and Arts Songs from Colonial America, newly arranged for soprano and piano trio, as well as The Congress, an original work for the same ensemble by Bill Robinson based upon a counter-revolutionary text by Rev. Jonathan Odell from 1776. The program continues with two piano trios from the 20th century: Amy Beach's romantic/impressionistic work form 1938 and Cafe Music, Paul Schoenfeld's boundary crossing classic from 1987. This concert is part of Duke University's "We the People" initiative, marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
