Duke Chapel

 
Duke Chapel, at the top of Chapel Drive on West Campus, is one of the last great examples of the Collegiate Gothic architectural style in the United States.  Opened in 1932, it has a 210-foot-high tower, a 50-bell carillon, 77 stained glass windows, three pipe organs and seating for 1,600 people.

DIRECTIONS

  • From Raleigh and the East: Via I-40 West: Merge onto 147 N via Exit 279B toward Durham/Downtown. From 147 N take the 15-501 S Exit toward Chapel Hill. Take Exit 108A onto Morreene Road. Turn LEFT onto Morreene Road. Continue through two lights. (Morreene Road becomes Towerview Drive at the second light-Erwin Road). Take the second LEFT onto Science Drive. The Bryan Center parking lot and garage will on your RIGHT. Exit the parking deck on Level 2 and follow the trail up to street level for most venues.
  • From Chapel Hill and the South: Via US 15-501 North: From the US-15-501 Bypass N take Exit 108A onto Morreene Road. Turn RIGHT onto Morreene Road. Continue through two lights. (Morreene Road becomes Towerview Drive at the second light-Erwin Road). Take the second LEFT onto Science Drive. The Bryan Center parking lot and garage will on your RIGHT. Exit the parking deck on Level 2 and follow the trail up to street level for most venues.
  • From Virginia and the North: Via I-85 South: Exit onto 15-501 S toward Chapel Hill. From 15-501 S, take Exit 108A onto Morreene Rd and turn LEFT onto Morreene Road. Continue through two lights. (Morreene Road becomes Towerview Drive at the second light-Erwin Road). Take the second LEFT onto Science Drive. The Bryan Center parking lot and garage will on your RIGHT. Exit the parking deck on Level 2 and follow the trail up to street level for most venues.
  • From the Triad and the West: Via 1-85 North: Exit onto Durham Freeway NC 147 South. Take 147 to 15-501 South toward Chapel Hill. Take Exit 108A onto Morreene Road. Turn LEFT onto Morreene Road. Continue through two lights. (Morreene Road becomes Towerview Drive at the second light-Erwin Road). Take the second LEFT onto Science Drive. The Bryan Center parking lot and garage will on your RIGHT. Exit the parking deck on Level 2 and follow the trail up to street level for most venues.
  • Ticketing Location: Tickets for Chapel performances are administered from the Page Auditorium Box Office, located adjacent to the left of the Chapel entrance.

PARKING INFORMATION

Event parking is available in Parking Garage IV, adjacent to the Bryan University Center on West Campus. Please arrive early to allow time for parking. Fees range from $2/hour to $5 cash/event; vehicles with a valid Duke parking permit may park at no charge. You may pay an attendant, or if an attendant is not present, pull an entry ticket. Keep the ticket with you, and pay at an automated pay station before returning to your vehicle. The pay station will return the paid entry ticket, which is required to exit the facility. During evenings and weekends, some additional free parking is available on West Campus. Limited parking is available on the streets and in selected parking lots that do not remain gated evenings and weekends. ACCESSIBLE PARKING

Accessible parking is available in the Bryan Center Lot and adjacent parking garage (PG IV). The accessible drop off area is in the Bryan Center Lot/Traffic Circle.

An automatic door opener with remote control capability is located at the Duke Chapel side entrance facing the Divinity School.

Restrooms with accessible features are located in the Divinity School adjacent to the Duke Chapel. Restrooms in the Bryan Center are accessible from the Duke Chapel Quad via stairs or a sloped path.

There is an accessible pathway leading from the parking/drop off area to the accessible ramped entrance via a slightly sloped sidewalk.
