Program
What happens when the Romantic piano tradition is placed alongside voices that expanded and challenged it? In this wide-ranging recital, acclaimed pianist Jeremy Denk brings together music by Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Louise Farrenc, and contemporary composers including Tania León and Missy Mazzoli. The program culminates with Brahms’ Four Piano Pieces, Op. 119 and Robert Schumann’s sweeping Fantasy in C Major, one of the great landmarks of the Romantic piano repertoire.
Denk is one of America’s foremost pianists, a recipient of both the MacArthur “Genius” Fellowship and the Avery Fisher Prize. Praising the depth of his musical insight and the generosity of his playing, The New York Times calls him “a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs.”
