Griffith Film Theater is located inside of the Bryan University Student Center. As you walk from the Bryan Center parking lot, the Bryan Center on is the building to your right. Griffith Film Theater is on the middle level (Floor 2) of the Bryan Center adjacent to Sheafer Lab Theater.

Griffith Film Theater has a seating capacity of 500. Griffith is used for academic classes, as well as weekly scheduled film screenings during the academic year by Freewater Presentations.

SCHEDULING POLICY

The Duke Venue and Production Management Team oversees the scheduling of theater venues. Priority is given to university departments, programming, and student organizations. Scheduling for Duke-affiliated groups starts one year in advance, beginning in October. Theaters are scheduled following a policy sensitive to the unique needs the spaces offer to major users in arts focused productions. Non-Duke organizations may request dates in April for Fall dates, and in October for spring dates.

SPECIFICATIONS AND EQUIPMENT

Griffith Film Theater includes a small stage suitable for one or more speakers with no backstage or dressing rooms. There is limited stage lighting in a fixed overhead position. No additional lighting is available.
Basic equipment is provided at no additional charge, including;
  • Podium
  • Sound System
  • 20x30 ft Electrical Screen
The following equipment is available in the facility for an additional fee:
  • 35mm Motion Picture Projector (Century Platter System)
  • 5000 lumen NEC data/video Projector
  • BluRay/DVD player
  • Slide Projection
  • Laptop Computer

STAFFING REQUIREMENTS

To ensure the highest quality experience, this facility requires a minimum of one Duke production technician to be onsite during most events. For events with an audience, additional Audience Services staff may be provided to support the experience. The number of event and production staff is tailored to the specific needs of each event and determined by venue management.

Please note that events longer than four hours may incur additional fees. If your event requires security or extra staff, these services are available through our trusted vendors at market rates. All staffing must be approved by and is at the discretion of venue management.

SPACE USE FEES

Estimates of costs can be provided. Cancellation fees may also apply.

PARKING

Parking is available in the Bryan Center Parking Garage 4 (PG4) and in the upper-level ground metered lot, at an hourly rate of $2/hour.

Parking arrangements for your event can be made through consultation with our team. It is advisable to discuss parking for performers in addition to your audience. Event parking may be arranged in advance for a flat fee with at least three weeks notice.
